There is no set way to enter into a career in the arts. People get their feet on the first rung of the ladder in a variety of ways. Some come with formal training, some with transferable work skills, and others with qualifications. What unites them is a great enthusiasm for the arts.

The Independent Theatre Council runs a year-round programme of short courses, seminars and professional career development. The ITC can also advise on specialist schemes and initiatives, such as Fast Track (for aspiring Black and Minority Ethnic arts managers), secondments, mentoring, work placements, shadowing and action learning sets.
